EARLY SET OF 12 FRENCH SILVER DESSERT KNIVES
Rare French Louis XVIII period set of 12 dessert knives in its original case, by C. Gavet, cutler to the King and princes, fully hallmarked silver blades circa 1820, with mother o’ pearl handles.
Also a rarity to have survived in its original labelled case which was wax sealed when first purchased.
The knives are complete and undamaged, albeit with some age and use related wear.
What a beautiful historical find considering France had not long undergone a revolution and Napoleon had just been defeated, and yet this’ Royalist’ little box managed to be produced as soon as Louis XVIII was reinstated to the French throne.
Length of knives: 20cm
